      Worked examples

      Two adults, 3 nights from 15 October 2026, any paid accommodation (hotel, guest house, hostel, holiday flat), €180.00 a night:€14.40.

      • €90.00 per person per night (net price per person per night, excluding VAT and extras such as breakfast) → €2.40 per person per night.
      • 2 guests × 3 nights.

      A family of two adults and two children aged 7 and 15, 12 nights, same accommodation:€57.60.

      • €45.00 per person per night (net price per person per night, excluding VAT and extras such as breakfast) → €1.20 per person per night.
      • 4 guests × 12 nights.

      Exemptions

      • None for children. Business stays have been taxed since 1 January 2023.

      Good to know

      • Rates for stays booked from 1 January 2025 (20% higher than before). Above €200 per person per night, add €1.20 for each additional €50 or part of €50.
      • When several people share a room, the room price is split between them.

      Do children pay the tourist tax in Hamburg?
      The official source lists no age exemption: children pay like adults.
      Is there a maximum number of nights?
      There is no night cap: every night is taxed.
      Who is exempt?
      None for children. Business stays have been taxed since 1 January 2023.
