French tourist tax: questions

Who pays the taxe de séjour in France?
Adults (18 and over) staying in paid accommodation in a town where they are not resident. Minors never pay, nor do seasonal workers employed in the town and people in emergency or temporary rehousing. If the town voted a minimum rent, stays below it are not taxed.
How much is the tourist tax in Paris?
In 2026, €8.45 per adult per night in a 4-star hotel: €2.60 voted by the city, plus 10% for the département, 200% for Île-de-France Mobilités and 15% for the Société des grands projets.
How is the tax calculated for an Airbnb without stars?
An unclassified rental pays a percentage (1% to 5%, voted by the town) of the price per night divided by all occupants, children included, capped at the town’s highest tariff; surcharges are added on top, and only adults pay. In Paris, a flat at €200 a night for two adults and two children costs €16.26 of tax per night.
Is the tax the same everywhere in France?
No. Each town (or group of towns) votes its own tariffs within a national scale, may collect it only part of the year, and some areas add surcharges. That is why the calculator loads the official 2026 deliberation of the town you choose.
Is the tax included in my booking?
Booking platforms usually collect it for the host and show it on the bill; hotels often add it at checkout. Either way, it is due once, not twice.
