Vienna tourist tax
Staying in Vienna, you pay the Vienna local tax (Ortstaxe): 5% of the room price.
- ChildrenChildren are not exempt: the tax depends on the price or the number of rooms, not on who sleeps there.
- NightsThere is no night cap: every night is taxed.

Coming change, 1 July 2027: The Ortstaxe rises to 8% of the price excluding VAT and breakfast.

Vienna local tax: rates
5% of the price of the accommodation, excluding VAT, for every night. If your price includes 10% VAT, the calculator takes it out when you select it.

Worked examples
Two adults, 3 nights from 15 October 2026, any paid lodging (hotel, guest house, holiday flat), €180.00 a night:€27.00.
- 5% of €540.00 (3 nights at €180.00).
A family of two adults and two children aged 7 and 15, 12 nights, same accommodation:€108.00.
- 5% of €2,160.00 (12 nights at €180.00).
Exemptions
- Minors staying for school, vocational training or in youth hostels.
- Students at Vienna universities and colleges.
Good to know
- 5% of the price of the stay excluding VAT and breakfast, from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 (before: 3.2% after an 11% flat deduction).
- Official shortcut: with 10% VAT, the tax is 4.3478% of the price including VAT and the tax (price × 0.043478).
