      Worked examples

      Two adults, 3 nights from 15 October 2026, any tourist establishment or local accommodation (al):€18.00.

      • €3.00 per person per night.
      • 2 guests at the full rate, 3 taxed nights.

      A family of two adults and two children aged 7 and 15, 12 nights, same accommodation:€63.00.

      • Only the first 7 nights are taxed (consecutive nights).
      • €3.00 per person per night.
      • 3 guests at the full rate, 1 exempt, 7 taxed nights.

      Exemptions

      • Children and young people aged 12 or under.
      • Stays for medical reasons (and two companions), people with a disability of 60% or more (and two companions).
      • Pilgrims (e.g. to Santiago or Fátima) for the first night in Porto’s pilgrim hostels; people rehoused by public social services; asylum seekers.

      • Since 1 December 2024 the tax is €3 per night (no longer per booking), up to 7 nights in a row.
