Amsterdam tourist tax: rates
12.5% of the price of the accommodation, excluding VAT, for every night.
Worked examples
Two adults, 3 nights from 15 October 2026, any overnight accommodation (hotel, b&b, holiday rental, campsite, boat), €180.00 a night:€67.50.
- 12.5% of €540.00 (3 nights at €180.00).
A family of two adults and two children aged 7 and 15, 12 nights, same accommodation:€270.00.
- 12.5% of €2,160.00 (12 nights at €180.00).
Exemptions
- People staying in a government-recognised care institution. There is no exemption for children.
Good to know
- The tax is 12.5% of the price of the overnight stay excluding VAT. Extra services that are part of the overnight price count, even if billed separately.
- There is no night cap: every night is taxed.
- The ordinance in force is the “Verordening Toeristenbelasting 2024”; no later Amsterdam tourist-tax ordinance appeared in the national register of local regulations on 1 October 2026.
